The Atlanta Airport Rotary Club began as the East Point Rotary Club, chartered May 21, 1948. The Club represented the Tri-Cities Areas of Union City, Fairburn, Palmetto, College Park, East Point and Hapeville communities.
Our Club continued to grow with the growth around the airport, and we sponsored The Clayton Country (then Forest Park) Rotary Club in 1960 and The Atlanta Airport (in College Park) in 1965. A number of our members who lived in the Vinings area left to become charter members of the Vinings Rotary Club in 1989.
In April of 1994 with the decline in population around the airport, The East Point and Atlanta Airport Rotary Clubs merged to again become one club representing the airport area.
We are a convenient club to the airport and have the honor of chaperoning many international student scholars who are passing through the airport between our country and home and need a friend. Many international visitors attend our club for make-ups during layovers because of our convenience to the airport.
Our most recognizable past member and still Honorary Member is Truett Cathy, founder of Chick-Fil-A.
